Scott Insinga PE/Asst.Princ. May 17, 2006

To the Howard Family,

I would like to pass my condolences once again for your loss. Bill and I are two of only three true Steelers fans here at the school and I will miss our conversations on every Monday. He the optimisitic fan, giving me, an assistant football coach and offensive ordinator for the school team, the calls that should have been made if he where the coach.

Bill was a good man, good friend, great teacher, ever greater Steelers Fan!

Sincerely,

Scott Insinga

Chrystena Ewen Teacher at LHS May 17, 2006

I was unable to attend the services for Bill, but would like to offer my sympathy to his family.  I am a teacher at Londonderry, but never really knew Bill before this year.  We were assigned "front door duty" together for the year.  Every morning we sat together at the front desk, writing passes for all of the kids who were late.  Sometimes we would have races, and he would oftne chide me for jumping ahead to write passes for the kids in line whose names I knew.  One particular student, who is always late, became a competition to see who would get to write his pass each day.

I found him to be kind and humorous, and was impressed with what a great job he did with the kids in his classes.  No matter what problems in their lives or what trouble they got into, he always seemed to be encouraging them to get that work in and not to forget to make up that test.  They teased him often which shows how much they liked and cared about him - and I remember on the last morning that we were together, a student calling out affectionately "See ya baldy!" as he made his way off to class.

he is missed here and I am sure he is missed at home.  My thoughts are with all of you!

I am very saddened to hear of the loss of Mr. Howard, a truly wonderful and patient teacher. I remember the first time we met I explained that there was no way my son Jerry was going to be able to do algebra or complex math calculations as he still had difficulty with simple addition and subtraction. Mr. Howard said that he will learn and assured me that he would work closely to help my son achieve those goals. He did. He worked a miracle that other teachers from years before were unable to accomplish! My heart is filled with sadness over the passing of a great man, person and teacher. My thoughts with all of you that were dear to him.

My deepest sympathies to "Wild Bill's" family. Bill was one of the most compassionate individuals that I have worked with while at Vocational Rehabilitation. Bill's sense of humor, smile, laugh, and ability to put things in prospective will always be with me. I cannot think of any professional that felt more deeply about those individuals he served or taught.

My cousin Billy Howard (because to us he's always going to be "Billy")was truly an uncommon person. He lived through a boatload of experiences that could have made him a mean or dark or angry person, but he had the strength of character to be the absolute opposite of that. He was a charming and gregarious and wonderfully loving man, totally devoted to his family. With his lovely bride Glenda, he created a warm, stable, loving home in which they raised three boys to be wonderfully intelligent, charming, and affectionate. Billy showed them how to be men of integrity and character, and they took his lessons to heart. Right now Billy is probably up in Heaven with my dad and Grandma Bollington, having a beer...which, at the moment, is only small consolation. His loss will be keenly felt, not only by his wife and sons and daughters-in-law, and the grandchildren that he so cherished, but throughout the network of family and friends that so love and value him. He leaves a hole that no one else could fill.

Thanks for making me laugh, Billy. Family gatherings will never be the same again.

Bill was my best friend in High School and our friendship continued as we both attended different schools in Pittsburgh. Through the years we drifted apart, as so many friendships often do over time, taking its toll on us all. We will miss Bill deeply and he will be in our prayers.

Mr Howard was such an amazing Teacher. I got so close to him over the year. All i can do is think about all the good times i had with him. I always came in his classroom and no matter how grumpy i was he always made me smile. I never liked math but he taught me in a way i understood it and actually liked it. Math will never be the same and neither will lunch. Everday during lunch i spent it with mr Howard. Always caught up on work and read the newspaper with him. Mr howard to me wasnt only a teacher but a friend, All he talked about was his grandchildren and how proud he was. I have so many amazing memories to look back on and im honored i had him as a teacher. Mr howards family.. i am sorry and my prayers and thoughts are with you..

Glenda, Dave, Seth & Aaron,

I am so sorry to hear about Bill! Thinking back to all the things that he did with us when we were kids, it does not surprise me that he became a fellow teacher. Scouts, coaching baseball or playing basketball at the school yard, Bill enjoyed every activity with his boys! One of my best memories of Bill was the day that he took Dave and me to Johnstown for an AAABA baseball game, complete with hotdogs at Coney Island. I still get sick to my stomach and chuckle as I recall Bill teasing me that the women serving the hotdogs would stack them all the way to their arm pits!!!

Our thoughts and prays are with you all,

Bill was an amazing teacher and friend. I learned a lot from him. Bill looked after me during my time teaching at LHS. We became very close friends. I always told him he was “my dad” at school. He looked out for me as a father would. Bill always knew how to inspire me to become a better person and teacher. I struggled a lot with life, and when I lacked confidence in myself, Bill would be there to pick up the pieces.

I never knew Billy Howard very well. I remember him from family reunions many years ago and from seeing him again at Justin’s wedding.

He is at peace now but those that are left will surely feel the loss for years to come. My thoughts and prayers are for those that are left.

May you be comforted in knowing that he is in heaven with those that went before.
May you not concentrate on what is lost, or things you didn’t say, but on the experiences that you have.
May you take comfort in those around you, your family, your friends and your own life going forward.
May we all continue on to fight the good fight as Billy did and those before him did.
May we all strive to get the most out of every day, to brighten the lives around us and to continue to improve ourselves.

As my sister represents the remaining Bollington clan in this sad time, please know that even though the rest of us are not there physically, we are there with you and send you all our love and prayers.

Throughout my teenage years the Howard's served as my surrogate family. When I wanted to feel accepted all I had to do was show up and they would take care of the rest. I'll always remember Bill as a truly altruistic man that always wanted to help. I honestly don't know where I would be today if it were not for Bill, and everyone else in the Howard family, taking me under their wing and helping me in every possible way. Thank you all for everything. Bill, I will miss you, but you will never be forgotten.

"Wild Bill"
Thank you for being you
Doing all that you do
And allowing me to be me

Thank you for believing
Loving, caring, and seeing
That everyone is worthy

Thank you for all
The big and the small
The world will miss you Billy
